Major IP vendor Motorola has succumbed to investor pressure to lift its performance replacing CEO Edward Zander with insider and former chief operating officer, Greg Brown. Motorola has been in a battle with its major shareholder Carl Icahn over lack luster performance, especially from its mobile division which has lost market share after not being able to follow up with a successor to the popularity Razr phone.

The so-called Enum (from tElephone NUmber Mapping) registry is to be created by Nominet, the company that already runs the .uk registry, after it won the UK contract on Thursday. Currently most VoIP calls pass over the public telephone network, incurring a charge, which is often passed on to the person who makes the call. If VoIP providers connected directly with each other, there would be no additional charge.

The Enum registry could also play a major role in the convergence of traditional telephony and IP telephony, by making standard telephone numbers work for both.

Nowdays Skype is a vital tool for not only keeping their reporters in touch but also for delivering high voice quality reports and more effective technical support.

Radio Free Asia adopted Skype originally as a way to lower their costs, but have increasingly used it to consolidate and manage all their voice communications across their offices in southeast Asia.
